ABOUT US and OUR START
Terry and I have had German Shepherds as part of our family since 1978 and have been breeding German Shepherds since 1997.
I became interested in confirmation showing and handling with the purchase of our Kyra, (Siebenmark Belkyra Holterbren) back in 1981. She was the product of a breeding between Ch. Kilmarvdon's Mighty Mazda and Tummillo's Mikki-Lou CD.
Our second show German Shepherd was purchased from Canisphere Kennel in 1984. He was a magnificent male that we will never forget, Apollo, (Canisphere Holterbren Apollo).
With these two dogs and our early mentoring from Mavis Kilgour, Suzanne Oliver and Lawrence Anonychuk I was hooked with the passion for showing and total dedication to this breed.
In 1997 we had the good fortune to be introduced to Tom and Sylvia Veal of Manorfields Kennel. Both Tom & Sylvia's extensive knowledge of German Shepherds spaning over 40 years proved invaluable to Terry and myself. Tom has coached, critiqued and competed against me in the ring for many years and remains someone I can call upon for assistance and advice. We have become the best of friends and our kennels have co-produced exceptional puppies. The first breeding we jointly produced was with CH. Holterbren's Eko and CH. Manorfields Falko. One of the results is CH. Holterbren's Blue. Another very special breeding was with CH. Holterbren's Blue and CH. Manorfields Pax. The result is Holterbren's Tassy (who you will see in the ring this spring).
Another special relationship in the growth of Holterbren Kennel is with Charlotte Smith of Mistique Kennel and Susan Smith-Venn of Norland Kennel. Charlotte and I have jointly bred CH. Holterbren's Blue and CH. Mystique's Valdi twice and the results were Holterbren's Willie (the 6 week old puppy on the label in my photo album) and a repeat breeding which produced CH. Holterbren's Blue Elton John (Johnny). Several of the litter mates were purchased by O.P.P. families. Susan was Johnny's handler when in 1 weekend, June 2006 he earned a total of 10 points and his Canadian Championship
With the guidance of all of the people mentioned above and the love, devotion, and time we have spent with our German Shepherds, we are very proud to offer you our knowledge, help and guidance with your puppy throughout the years.
In short, with 30 years of reading, studying, listening and learning, and sorting out fact from fiction, we offer to you, our dogs new human families, our knowledge and guidance, with proper growth, health, and training for you and your new family member.
Our puppies are born in the house and raised in a clean home environment. They are socialized to noise, places and lots of people, and you can find them much of the time underfoot with me in my kitchen. Yet they are reasonably priced.
All of our German Shepherds are bred with the utmost care in sire and dam selection to achieve our dedication to breed improvement. So whether your German Shepherd is to be your companion or your next show-working dog we are sure you will find it at Holterbren Kennels.
